Sioned Williams praises Swansea sustainable business for creating exciting opportunities for women in STEM

Plaid Cymru MS Sioned Williams praised the exciting opportunities being offered to women in STEM by Power and Water, an award-winning water treatment technology company based in Llansamlet, Swansea, during a visit today to mark International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11th).

Power and Water specialise in eco-friendly wastewater treatment methods which don’t require liquid chemicals, to recover waste products and produce clean safe water, avoiding the use of harmful and unsafe substances.

South Wales West MS and Plaid Cymru Spokesperson for Post-16 Education and Equalities, Sioned Williams said:

“It was a pleasure to meet three recent women graduates who are now central to the exciting research being carried out by Power and Water. This innovative company are not only providing excellent career opportunities in science to local women, but also to a Chemical Engineering graduate of Kiyv University, Iryna, who joined the company after coming to Wales as part of the Welsh Government's super sponsor programme for Ukrainian refugees.

“The talent, drive and passion of the scientists I met during my visit was inspiring and I congratulate Power and Water for the way they are helping create such vital opportunities for female scientists in Wales.”

Sioned Williams added:

“Power and Water’s development of cutting-edge green technology is creating local job opportunities and stimulating green economic growth in Wales and beyond, with involvement in projects from California and Singapore as well as many within the UK.  

“I heard about exciting plans to expand their business and have no doubt that such innovative, sustainable solutions are possible to aid industry, agriculture and utility companies to embrace sustainable, clean solutions.”
