Political Education

It's crucial that we enable our young people to understand the way in which policy ideas, ideology and systems of government create the society and the world that they live in, and how they can have a voice, express a view and play a part in the democratic process, and to appreciate and understand why that's important, so that they understand that they do have power.

Over the last few years in the Senedd, I have tried to emphasise that everyone has a voice and that it counts. I have tried to ensure that the voices of young people and children in Wales are heard and as many as possible are encouraged to take an interest and active role in all our futures.

27.03.25 - Visit to Gower College

I had a wonderful morning at Gower College Swansea speaking to students studying Politics. Once again it was so heartening to see a room full of young people so interested in their Senedd, and the wider world of politics.


12.03.25 - Welcome to your vote week 2025

I sponsored a roundtable discussion hosted by The Electoral Commission focused on how we can best engage with young people ahead of May 2026 to increase their understanding and confidence to participate in the Senedd election. Dame Elan Closs Stephens, Electoral Commissioner for Wales, chaired the discussion and outlining the key findings from ew research into young people's attitudes to democracy and politics Young Voices on Democracy. We were also joined by, Children in Wales, alongside some brilliant young people who have produced some artwork on the theme of "My Vote, My Voice" - "Fy Mhleidlais, Fy Llais".


07.03.25 - Elect Her

I was so pleased to have been a part of Elect Her's event ‘Inspire Her in the Senedd’ ahead of International Women's Day. We need more women in the places where decisions are made and it was especially great to speak to young women from my former school Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni about my journey into politics.
