Increase the representation of women in local government

I recently challenged the Welsh Government to do more to increase the representation of women in local government

36% of the councillors elected in the elections in 2022 were women—an increase of 8% since 2017, but far from being where we should be in terms of equality.

Although two councils are equal in terms of gender balance, the picture in other areas is unacceptable, where the representation of women is as low as 18%.

I therefore called on the Welsh Government to do more to improve representation of women in local government.

I also asked for an update on the work that is being done by the Government to investigate the feasibility of options for job sharing in the Senedd as part of the work for the Senedd reform Bill.
